It’s done the rounds online this week, but The Guardian‘s round up of Brutalist playgrounds in Britain is certainly worth a peek. While the tower blocks of Britain’s Brutalist phase are a familiar site on our skylines, there are also a number of angular playgrounds which exist in their shadows. Built during the same period, they’re the inspiration for a new installation at the RIBA by artist Simon Terrill and design collective Assemble. While we can appreciate the design sensibility from a purely aesthetic standpoint, we can imagine there were a few knees being skinned on the rough edges of these play areas! Take a look at the above, from the Churchill Gardens estate in Pimlico to Sheffield’s Park Hill estate and beyond. via
