Loyle Carner – ‘A Little Late’ EP

On a hip hop thing it’s no secret there’s something brewing south of the river right now. Sub Luna City have been drawing water since they dropped City Rivvims Mk 1 earlier this year – and although cool-culture got onboard because of the obvious King Krule (aka Edgar the Beatmaker) affiliation, it was exciting to hear a new grip of talent on that effort – and the crew stand out in their own right. Loyle Carner is the latest emcee to represent South London’s fresh new sound, dropping his anticipated debut EP A Little Late this week. We first heard him on Reggie Snow’s ‘1992’, before his own track ‘Cantona’ made underground waves when it released earlier this year. Luckily A Little Late continues the calibre set by these initial offerings. ‘Cantona’ features, as does ‘Sea Shells’ (another pre-released dime), but it’s the tracks that precede this that really step it up. Production’s taken care of by Rebel Kleff. Needless to say Loyle’s on repeat for the next few hours at least. You can download the EP for free over here.
