Since the onset, O. BALLOU has presented a highly photographic vision for luxury menswear- inspired (for AW14 at least) by the city of Napoli. The brand’s AW14 is fittingly shot in the Southern Italian city and its Royal Palace in neighbouring Caserta by London-based photographer Errol Rainey.
Channeling the energy of the metropolis and the Mediterranean influence at the heart of the brand, the campaign highlights the traditional, unstructured Neapolitan tailoring in the collection, which is paired with luxurious knitwear and a heavier, leather element. Handmade in Napoli, tailoring finds a balance between total softness and that aggressive lapel so often associated with the area. Outerwear brings in a real touch of luxury, executed in premium suede, deerskin and Mongolian sherpa. Rainey’s photographs have done well to capture the essence of the collection and the inspiration behind it – the people of Napoli, the juxtaposition between tough street life and opulent wealth, and the overarching presence of Catholicism.
