Back in 2012, Glenn O’Brien set upon the idea to don priest regalia and take confession inside the Chelsea Hotel, offering penance to sinners as part of a performative project. Unlike the formal drab of a traditional confessional setting, O’Brien’s confession booth was dressed with artworks by Richard Prince and he was assisted by swimsuit model Michelle Vawer (dressed as a nun, of course). The confessions were recorded for later use – and have now found their way into Penance, a printed re-visiting of all 100 confessional transcripts. Published by Alldayeveryday, the book comes wrapped in a dust jacket/poster by Richard Prince and a prayer card written by O’Brien. A hard cover edition of 100 and soft cover edition of 400 have been printed, which you can find here.
