In December 1966, Jimi Hendrix and his girlfriend, Kathy Etchingham, moved into the lower-ground floor at 34 Montagu Square, a property owned (and once lived in) by Ringo Starr. They paid £30 a month which seems like a pretty sweet deal – even for back then. Anyway, apparently Jimi was a really shitty tenant. Like, he really didn’t give a shit, and sometimes he’d do things – like throwing whitewash on the walls while on LSD – that really pissed off Ringo. Eventually Ringo evicted Jimi and Kathy. It wasn’t a totally bad time for Jimi though – he managed to write ‘The Wind Cries Mary’ while he lived there – but his domestic habits just weren’t up to scratch with Ringo’s standards. Cool story, huh? These photos, by photojournalist Petra Niemeier, catch Jimi lounging around the house, smoking cigarettes, napping, napping AND smoking, and generally being chill. The one where he’s ashing into his dinner is kinda weird though…
